Indian passport, PAN card, voter ID, visa, school admission, government forms — every one of them asks for a 3.5 × 4.5 cm photo at 300 DPI on a white background. Most photo studios charge ₹50-₹150 for 8 copies. With this tool you get an unlimited number for free, and your photo never leaves your browser. We use HTML5 Canvas to detect the face (via the experimental FaceDetector API), auto-crop so the head fills the top 70%, and output a clean JPEG sized to the exact mm × DPI Indian government specifications. If the auto-detect doesn't quite frame your face right, drag the zoom + shift sliders to nudge by a few percent. The output sheet tiles 4-8 copies on a 4×6 inch photo paper or A4.

What makes a passport photo get rejected — and how we prevent it

The top three reasons Indian Passport Seva rejects photos: (1) head size wrong — must be 25-35 mm from chin to crown, (2) background not pure white — even slight cream or shadow fails, (3) face not centered or eyes not at the right height. Our cropper enforces all three: the head-sizing math is wired to your selected preset (Indian Passport 35×45, PAN 35×35, US 51×51), the background is auto-replaced with pure #FFFFFF wherever your skin tone allows clean segmentation, and the face is centered with a 1/3 chin-to-eye-line ratio. For the most reliable results, take your source photo against a plain wall in soft natural light with no shadow on one side of the face. Avoid glasses with strong reflections, hair covering the forehead, and smiling with teeth (closed neutral expression is required).

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. 100% of processing happens in your browser using JavaScript and Canvas. The image never touches our server — you can disconnect from the internet right after the page loads and the tool will still work.
Can I print this at home?
Yes. Download the PDF sheet and print at 100% scale (no fit-to-page) on glossy photo paper. A4 paper works for documents; 4×6 photo paper gives studio-quality prints.
Will this work for US / UK / Canada passport?
Yes — we have presets for US (51×51 mm), UK (35×45 mm), and most other countries. Use the preset dropdown.
What if the face detection fails?
We fall back to a centered crop with you in control via zoom + shift sliders. Re-shoot in better lighting if auto-detect can't find the face.
