Indian portals cap PDF uploads at 1, 2, 5, or 10 MB — and your scanned documents are almost always larger. Our compression engine identifies the images embedded in your PDF, downsamples them from 300/600 DPI to 150 DPI (still print-readable), re-encodes them as efficient JPEGs, and rebuilds the PDF preserving the text layer (so the document remains OCR-searchable). For PDFs that are already small and text-heavy, compression has little effect — that's because the text is already at minimum byte cost. For scanned-image PDFs (PDFs that are basically images wrapped in PDF format), we can typically drop 60-80% off the file size.

Lite vs Aggressive: which to pick

Lite: drops embedded images to 200 DPI, JPEG quality 80. Usually halves file size, visually indistinguishable. Use this for portal uploads where readability matters. Aggressive: drops images to 100 DPI, JPEG quality 60, removes redundant fonts, flattens annotations. Typically reduces file size 70-90%. Text remains readable but high-detail images (architectural drawings, tiny print) may blur. Use this only when the file MUST fit a hard byte cap. We never alter the text layer or page count — only the embedded images change quality.

Does compression affect OCR?
Lite mode keeps OCR fully accurate. Aggressive mode may reduce OCR accuracy slightly on small print.
