The merge is lossless — text stays selectable, images keep their original resolution, page sizes are preserved (so a Letter-size PDF merged with an A4 PDF stays mixed-size, which most form portals accept). We do not re-encode anything; the merged PDF is bit-identical content from the originals, just stitched together at the file structure level.

When you should compress after merging

Merging 10 high-resolution scanned PDFs can produce a single PDF larger than 20 MB. Most upload portals cap at 5-10 MB. If your merged output exceeds the portal limit, run it through our 'Compress PDF' tool next — that re-encodes images inside the PDF at lower DPI without altering text, dropping the file size 70-90% with minimal visual quality loss. For text-only PDFs (like contracts), compression has nearly no effect since text takes microscopic space already.
